About Alyse Aquino, LPC
Seeking counseling can feel like a vulnerable step, whether you're navigating anxiety, relationship challenges, a difficult life transition, or simply feeling stuck. My goal is to provide a supportive, collaborative space where you can better understand yourself, develop new ways of responding to life's challenges, and move toward the kind of life and relationships you want to create.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Illinois with an MA degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of the Cumberlands. I work with individuals and couples facing a variety of concerns, with particular interests in relationship issues, anxiety, communication difficulties, and couples experiencing significant uncertainty about the future of their relationship.
My approach is grounded in TEAM-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and evidence-based couples counseling methods. Rather than focusing solely on symptom reduction, I help clients build psychological flexibility—the ability to respond more effectively to difficult thoughts, emotions, and circumstances while staying connected to what matters most. Together, we work to increase self-awareness, develop practical skills, and create meaningful, lasting change.
In my work with couples, I believe that healthier relationships begin not only with understanding one another, but also with understanding ourselves. I help partners strengthen communication, deepen empathy, navigate conflict more effectively, and identify patterns that may be keeping them stuck. For couples facing a crossroads in their relationship, I have completed training in Discernment Counseling, a specialized approach designed for couples in which one partner is leaning toward ending the relationship while the other hopes to preserve it.
Clients often describe me as warm, thoughtful, and engaged. I strive to balance compassion with honesty, creating a space where people feel supported while also being challenged to grow. Whether we are exploring longstanding patterns, learning new skills, or working through a difficult decision, I view therapy as a collaborative process tailored to your unique goals and circumstances.
Before becoming a counselor, I served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Mongolia and later worked in accounting as a Certified Public Accountant. These experiences broadened my appreciation for cultural differences, life transitions, professional stress, and the many ways people navigate challenges in their relationships, careers, and personal lives.
Currently, I provide counseling services through the counseling agency LifeThrive and welcome individuals and couples throughout Illinois via telehealth services.
